A good leader is a leader who not only has expertise in technical areas but especially in team management. Team management includes resource management, time management, communication with various stakeholders, recruitment, creating/revising job descriptions, SOPs, performance appraisals, and others. Unfortunately, not all of these things are taught to a new leader. New leaders are assumed to be good in technical areas so they must be able to do other areas.

This class is the first part of the Leadership for New Managers series which will be continued with 1:1 coaching for 6 months with topics tailored to the needs of each participant. We will discuss some basic skills such as the first steps in dealing with a new team, conducting performance appraisals, reviewing and revising job descriptions, recruitment, and others.

After completion of this program, participants will be better able to:

• Create good impressions and build a good foundation as a leader
• Understand how to manage up and get the support needed
• Conduct performance appraisals
• Review and revise Job Descriptions
• Conduct effective candidate interviews and exit interviews
